為什么圣誕快樂(lè)不用happy?
一直以來(lái)，“圣誕快樂(lè)”我們都是說(shuō)Merry Christmas，那Happy Christmas可不可以呢？其實(shí)從語(yǔ)法到用法，Happy Christmas都是沒(méi)有問(wèn)題的。
事實(shí)上，Happy Christmas更多是英國(guó)部分民眾的首選。而其中的代表人物，就是已逝的英女王伊麗莎白二世。在之前每年英國(guó)女王的圣誕演講中都可以聽(tīng)到女王給英國(guó)人民的祝福就是“Happy Christmas“。
英國(guó)人喜歡happy而非merry，據(jù)說(shuō)是因?yàn)椴幌矚gmerry所隱含的酗酒作樂(lè)之意，merry這個(gè)單詞的原意是“jovial, and outgoing，probably mildly intoxicated”，就是天性活潑的，可能還有些醉了的意思。因此保守的英國(guó)人會(huì)傾向于用Happy Christmas。
那Merry Christmas又是怎么流行起來(lái)的呢？追根溯源，Merry Christmas最早現(xiàn)身是在1565年的一份手稿上。據(jù)說(shuō)是一個(gè)海軍元帥寫(xiě)在信里的祝福：
And thus I comytt you to god, who send you a mery Christmas & many.
我于是送你到主面前，
愿主賜你圣誕快樂(lè)，萬(wàn)事如意。
直到1834年狄更斯的小說(shuō)A Christmas Carol《圣誕頌歌》（又譯為《小氣財(cái)神》）用到了這句話，隨著印刷工業(yè)的發(fā)展和這本小說(shuō)的流行，“Merry Christmas”的說(shuō)法才真正廣泛流行起來(lái)。
在使用“Merry Christmas”時(shí)也有禁忌哦！
Christmas是慶祝耶穌誕生，但是人家不信耶穌怎么辦？比如猶太教的人。所以在西方，只有非宗教信仰者和天主教會(huì)樂(lè)意聽(tīng)到Merry Christmas。因此為了避免這種宗教性的爭(zhēng)議，商務(wù)郵件一般都用Happy Holidays這種中性的語(yǔ)句代替。
